Hobbs Observatory Astronomical Series (HOAS) programs are held on third Saturday on the month (except December) at 8:00pm in the classroom at Hobbs Observatory.   Programs on various astronomical related topics are presented CVAS members and invited guests.  Programs run 45-60 minutes in length.  Topics can be found in the events calendar.

Hobbs Public Observing sessions follow all HOAS programs.  Additional public observing sessions are held on clear Saturdays May through October as volunteers are available.  Public observing starts about an hour after sunset for about two hours.

Phoenix Park Observing sessions in downtown Eau Claire are held about once a month on a weekend evening around the first quarter moon late spring through early fall. Follow CVAS on Facebook to get these event notifications.

CVAS business meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30pm in the classroom at Hobbs Observatory.  People interested in joining CVAS are encourage to attend.

CANCELED – Telescopes and Planets (and the Moon) in Phoenix Park

Friday September 14 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm

CVAS will setup telescopes in Phoenix Park to offer spectacular views of the moon and planets. Find us by the “High Five” dog in front of the RCU building. Since an almost first quarter moon will be visible before sunset (7:18pm) we’ll get things going at 7pm. Jupiter and Mars will show up shortly after 7:30, followed by Saturn as the skies darken.

The cloud forecast for Friday night is mixed right now – watch for weather updates on our Facebook page. If Friday night is cancelled we’ll try again on Sunday. This weekend will be likely be our last outreach event at Phoenix Park.
